Consume Consciously:
The Small Stuff:
If 2 million people chose to reuse their cup just once a week it would save 104m cups a year from landfill
Get a reusable cup!
Around 100,000 marine animals perish every single year because of plastic bags
Don't forget a reusable bag.
What to ride?
transportation
About 30% of annual greenhouse gas emission comes from transportation

* Electric car has zero direct CO2 emission
Just 25 minutes of brisk walking a day can add up to 7 years to your life.
Where to live?
Cities:

Buildings/houses:
Look for a house? Find LEED.
LEED is credited for buildings that save energy, water, resources, and generate less waste
Home sweet home:
Simple sustainable habits
Look for Energy Star label in every electronic product, like fridge, ACs, television, dishwasher, laundry machine, computer, microwave, etc.
Over its lifetime, Energy Star certified products in your household can save up to 130,000 pounds of GHGs and $11,000 of your own money.
Start Recycling!
If you haven't
Most of unrecycled trash goes straight to landfill, requiring an enourmous amount of money and energy to process them.
By doing the initial sorting process, we can cut this down.
Also... just don't waste water.
You can also save a significant amount of water yearly by turning off the tap when you're brushing your teeth or when you're putting on a shampoo.
Come on, it's not that hard.
Fix leaky toilets RIGHT AWAY.
A leaky toilet can waste 200 gallons of water per day!
Wear Sustainably:
Case study- Patagonia
Patagonia:
Model for sustainable business
- All products are made with organic cotton and recycled textiles
- A significant amount of Patagonia clothes are sold second-hand through WornWear
- Sustainable manufacturing system and facility management
- All fair-traded, traceable product history
- Support/sponsor environmental activists
- Continuing research on environmental impact of fibers
What to eat?
food
Our diet matters.
What we eat has a large impact on greenhouse gas emission. In fact, emission from food consumption is as great as emission from transportation. You might expect me to say "We should all be vegetarians, right now", but that's not the case.
Just by reducing beef intake, emission goes down drastically. And as a substitute, you can have poultry, fish, nutrient-rich vegetables! Mediterranean diet was also found out to be almost as low-carbon as vegetarian diet.
This is not only beneficial for our planet but also your own health, because it reduces risks of heart diseases and high blood pressure.

Let's be fair.
So much of the products we consume are handled in the hands of multinational companies, often lacking in just treatment for producers, and misrepresent producers in decisions. Fairtrade is an internationally recognized, third-party verification system, which tackles this issue by providing adequate pricing for food producers, which then encourages producers to afford sustainable production.
Look for Fairtrade mark next time you go shopping.

Go Organic.
USDA Organic seal is used by products that are produced without synthetic fertilizer, sewage sludge, irradiation or genetic engineering. Besides this, animals are fed natural weed and their natural behaviors are accommodated. Hormones or antibiotics cannot be used. Organic practices have a less damaging impact on the earth.
